Formed in 2004 by singer/guitarist Ben Bridwell and guitarist Mat Brooke following the breakup of their previous band, Carissa’s Weird, Band of Horses emerged onto the indie-rock scene to almost immediate critical acclaim. Sub Pop was quick to lasso the group and reissue their self-titled EP in 2005, followed a year later by Everything All the Time. Soaked in reverb and rootsy but grand melodies that simultaneously evoked both Neil Young and fellow Sub Pop darlings the Shins, the album was met with near universal acclaim. But shortly after its release, Brooke left to pursue a different musical path with the band Grand Archives, leaving Bridwell to take the reins of Band of Horses with bassist Rob Hampton and drummer Creighton Barrett. After relocating to Mount Pleasant, S.C., the newly streamlined trio recorded 2007’s critically lauded Cease to Begin. The band is currently at work on their third album.
