Baltimore electronic artist Dan Deacon has an experimental spirit that has resulted in some wildly eclectic music. He often stuffs his songs to the breaking points with seemingly contrasting sounds and instrumentation, as on “Get Older,” which moves from an electronic buzzing to something that resembles a steel drum implemented with a worldly inclusion that suggests Talking Heads. Not content to let a song sit still, he blasts it into space with a fuzzed-out synth. Other times, he’ll loop chanting voices into a mesmerizing tapestry of sound. Spiderman of the Rings, released in 2007, is a persistently intriguing set of songs laced with humor. With the recently released Bromst, he’s taken a slightly darker turn.
