Starting as a duo in Los Angeles, Ben Grubin and Jeremy Reynolds of Hockey played house parties and clubs around town, landed a deal with Epic and began recording their big studio debut with Jerry Harrison from the Talking Heads. Unfortunately, pressures from the suits to create more radio-friendly tunes prompted the band to relocate to Portland, Ore., where they could take advantage of the smaller, up-and-coming music scene and younger and more artistic demographic. They eventually left the label to create high-energy dance rock the way they wanted. Now a quartet, Hockey released its mostly self-produced album, Mind Chaos, last year. It’s the kind of record fans of both the Hold Steady and LCD Soundsystem would definitely enjoy.

4 months agoI LOVE Hockey. (Yeah Portland!) They have been my fave band of the summer. So I am super bummed they didn’t really get to play. I will definitely be looking up somewhere to check them out in the near future.

6 months agoYou guys did a great job today, even with all the power problems. You showed class in dealing with adversity and your music, unknown to me until this morning was a great way to start the day. Keep positive!
