Chicago’s own Hollywood Holt has been a DJ, break-dancer and the leader of his own Chi-Town moped gang (the Murder Club Moped Crew), but it’s as a rapper that he’s set to really make his mark. Teamed with producer/DJ Million Dollar Mano (who happens to be his cousin), Holt’s style is both old-school and of-the-moment, as befits an artist who cites influences as diverse as Mos Def, the Clash and the Bird and the Bee. The hype on Holt kicked into high gear last August when Kanye West featured the video for his song “Hollywood” on his blog, but he’s got a lot more going for him than just celebrity endorsement. His fun, playful rhymes reveal a rapper of true wit, and his extremely energetic live performances prove he’s got the heart of a punk rocker.
