If you’re of the opinion that politics (particularly of the liberal persuasion) and rock ’n’ roll don’t mix, odds are you’re you might have an issue or two with the Living Things’ agenda. But if you decide to steer clear, know this: You’re going to be missing out on some ferociously killer tunes. Sure, frontman Lillian Berlin was dubbed “one of hard rock’s most compelling politicos” by Rolling Stone; and yes, both of the St. Louis, Mo.-formed band’s albums — 2005’s Steve Albini-produced Ahead of the Lions and this year’s Habeas Corpus — are loaded with unapologetic broadsides against right-wing America. But the Living Things back up their political fury with an equally righteous glam-punk sound that’s been favorably compared to the hallowed likes of the Stooges, the Ramones, T-Rex, AC/DC and Guns ’n’ Roses. Think of it as gloriously noisy, sleazy riff rock with a message.
