Twenty-three-year-old Lykke Li (born Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson) isn’t the first weapon of sweet destruction deployed by the Swedish pop invasion, but she may well be one of the most devastatingly coy and effective yet. Her 2008 debut, Youth Novels, produced by Björn Yttling of Peter Björn and John fame, is a sly mélange of catchy dance pop, indie-rock minimalist aesthetics and Lykke’s sometimes-girlish, sometimes startlingly mature vocals and songwriting. Her arty videos for songs like “Little Bit” and “I’m Good, I’m Gone” are particularly insidious in their subversive charms, and she’s equally intoxicating live.
