“A soulful romp through psychedelic melodies and sprawling noise-scapes,” says Rolling Stone of Of Montreal’s 2008 endeavor, Skeletal Lamping. The bright and quirky indie-pop band got its start in 1997 with the album Cherry Peel. Since then, Of Montreal has followed the lead of its flamboyant frontman Kevin Barnes, who, on the band’s latest release, emphasizes a showy, transsexual alter ego named “Georgie Fruit” — a bit of a stretch for a man married with a child. Over its 12-year history, Of Montreal’s music has continued to evolve, all the while incorporating some subtle motifs: flavors of experimental indie pop, psychedelic sounds, vaudeville ostentation and funky rhythms. Their latest release, An Eluardian Instance (Jon Brion Remix EP), hit stores in early 2009 and featured five remixed tracks from Skeletal.
