Though formed way back in 1999, the trio of singer/guitarist Peter Morén, bassist/keyboardist Björn Yttling and drummer John Eriksson didn’t begin gaining attention in the U.S. until the 2005 release of their sophomore album, Falling Out. Since then, Peter Björn and John have been embraced both here and abroad as one of Sweden’s best indie-pop exports of the decade. The 2006 album Writer’s Block — and specifically, its instant whistle-along anthem, “Young Folks” — cinched it. You can try not to be moved to sheer joy by the trio’s inspired mix of new wave, ’60s baroque pop and unabashedly shameless power pop, but fair warning: you will fail. Peter Björn and John are frightfully prolific, too. Their catalog also includes a slew of EPs, a solo album by Morén and two more full-lengths released in the last 12 months: late ’08’s Seaside Rock and this year’s Living Thing.
