Ra Ra Riot has enjoyed and endured a career’s worth of highs and lows in its short three-year run. The indie pop-rock ensemble assembled in 2006 in Syracuse and quickly developed a reputation as a crackerjack live band. RRR’s songs are striking for their strings and other warm, chamber-pop aesthetics that nestle nicely with a persistent rock drive. Labels were interested, an EP was recorded, and a month before it was issued, drummer John Pike passed away. Ra Ra Riot chose to move ahead without Pike and released one of 2008’s best albums in The Rhumb Line, which included several songs with lyrics by Pike.
