thenewno2 (as in “the new No. 2,” a line borrowed from TV’s The Prisoner) is a London-based group led by singer/guitarist/keyboardist Dhani Harrison and drummer/keyboardist Oli Hecks. Harrison and Hecks are joined onstage by Jonathan Sadoff (keyboard/guitar/vocals), Jeremy Faccone (guitar/vocals), and Jason Hiller (bass). Following their 2006 introductory EP, EP001, thenewno2 released its full-length debut, You Are Here, in the U.K. in late 2008 (followed by a U.S. release this February). Rolling Stone approvingly described the album as “a subtle mix of gentle vocals and electronics, with layered beats, throbbing bass and occasional wailing guitar” and, overall, “a promising debut.” Oh yeah: Harrison’s dad used to play in a little band from Liverpool called the Beatles. And though thenewno2’s style is closer at times to Massive Attack than the Fab Four, the apple (pun intended) didn’t fall far from the tree. “There’s reference to everything he’s done in everything that I’ve done because he’s my dad, we were best friends, we grew up playing music together,” Dhani told Rolling Stone. “And if anyone hasn’t been influenced by [the Beatles] at some point, they’re probably lying.”
