By the time the Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their 2003 full-length debut, Fever to Tell, the New York City trio already had indie-rock stardom in the bag. Formed in 2000 by art-student-turned-punk-rock frontwoman Karen O, guitarist Nick Zinner and drummer Brian Chase, the young band gathered buzz fast and furiously with its first EP and opening for acts like the Strokes and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion both throughout the States and across Europe. Interscope signed the band, and Fever to Tell — buoyed by the surprisingly beautiful ballad “Maps” — sealed the deal. Three years later, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs released Show Your Bones, another strong outing that proved the band had lost none of its power in the wake of its lead singer leaving NYC for Los Angeles. For this year’s It’s Blitz!, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs went extra-heavy on the synths and keyboards, with glorious results. Spin called it “the alternative pop album of the decade — one that imbues the Killers’ Hot Fuss and MGMT’s Oracular Spectacular with a remarkable emotional depth and finesse.”

5 months agoGo ahead and hate on them aaalll you want. I don’t care if you prefer Tool. I don’t care if you think their gay. I think they put on an amazing show. It was so high energy, you couldn’t help but dance. Karen O sounded great, so did the guys. She had so much energy, it was infectious. I couldn’t stop dancing even though I was exhausted.
So, to all the people who are going to hate and say how you should have been at Tool,
us yeah yeah yeah fans had 20 times more fun than you did.
oh PS
i don’t think its very cool to be ripping on another musician when your playing the same festival. YYY’s were totally gracious to all the other musicians, because who cares if that’s not your kind of thing? No one made you sit over at their stage.
I can’t wait for next year!
6 months agoKaren O stepped up this weekend and became the best frontperson of her generation. A throwback to Bowie and Mercury. Captivating, sexual, humble, playful, and fun. What else do you want your rock music to do?

6 months agoso your gunna talk shit about music when the yeah yeah yeahs have only been making music for around 3 years when a band like tool has been around for 2.5 decades now?
wow unreal. no one talks shit about TOOL
6 months agowell im sorry if youre so stupid that you complain on an artists page. Guess whatnimrods, they put on a amazing show, crowd loved it and sang/danced away to songs, they helped make it an amazing night to ALL people their. AND can you take another guess critics…….. They got paid for that night. Did you? Didnt think so…… Besides most Tool worshippers are burnouts/ drugaddicts. Suck on that closeminded fools.

6 months agothey should have picked the yeah yeah yeahs instead of the beastie boys in the first place, if i would have known the yeah yeah yeahs would be there i would have planned to go to the festival, but unfortunaletly its too late now since i already have trip plans for august. but at least i will see them at bumbershoot! i saw them for the first time at sasquatch festival and they were my favorite performance i have ever seen. gotta love karen!
